For my first foray into the world of gel nails, I went simple. Very simple. Simple Sheer by Gelish to be exact. This is a really great gel to opt for if you are looking for glossy natural nails. I'll give you some of my thoughts...
I got my bottle of Gelish Simple Sheer from a Facebook Marketplace sale... very cheap! But it's available from Nail Polish Canada here. It has the tiniest tint of red which helps to cancel out any staining on the nail. It worked really well for me and left my nails looking incredibly glossy and clean. I applied as one would normally with a cured base and then one coat of Simple Sheer and cured and then my top coat and cured. This worked really well as a gel underlay over which I could paint any colour without worrying about applying a base coat. However, if you intend to paint over this again and again, use a non-acetone remover so as not to compromise the integrity of the base.
While some say you can just use a base and top coat as an underlay, I think Simple Sheer really helped to keep my nails strong and brighten them up a bit. I kind of ruined my nails in removing this but that has thankfully grown out and I have learned my lesson. Also, I won't be using Bonder anymore as that makes it stick too much to my nail. Live and learn!
