Girly Bits Keep Calm, Terry On and Fox Trot for Crystal's Charity Lacquers

Wednesday, August 30, 2017

Terry Fox is a household name in Canada and one of the most inspiring Canadians I would say. To date, the Terry Fox Foundation has raised over $750 million for cancer research. This September, Girly Bits has teamed up with Crystal'sCharity Lacquers to support the Foundation in the hopes of finding a cure for cancer once and for all. A note on that, $2 CAD from the purchase of each bottle from the Girly Bits website will go to The Terry Fox Foundation. Now that's a winning combination!

These are available to order from September 1st at 12noon EDT until September 17th at 11:59pm EDT ONLY!

Girly Bits Fox Trot is a lilac holo with pink to blue shimmer. This one is so inredibly sparkly - little sparks fly off the nail in direct lighting. I am wearing 2 coats plus top coat. Very easy to apply and no issues with removal.

There's something magical about this polish. It's so ethereal and light. I love the shifting shimmer in this. I will be reaching for this A LOT! Especially in the Spring months.

Keep Calm, Terry On is a deep blue crelly base, stuffed with red and blue shimmers which gives it a bit of a royal purple lean. This one was inspired by the Terry Fox Foundation colours. This one is so unique and I love the shimmers in it. They appeared as tiny microflakes to me but they are actually shimmers! I am wearing 3 coats plus top coat. You need the 3 coats to add the depth. No issues with application or removal.

I have nothing like this polish in my collection. It's very sparkly and vampy but also really cute and fun. I love how Pam took the colours of The Terry Fox Foundation and turned it into a polish. This application was super smooth and the three coats add depth.

About Crystal's Charity Lacquer, Terry Fox and The Terry Fox Foundation:

This sale is being held in conjunction with @crystalscharitylacquers annual participation in the Terry Fox Run. Terry Fox is a Canadian icon. He was diagnosed at just 18 years old with bone cancer (osteogenic sarcoma) and in 1977, he was forced to have his right leg amputated 6 inches above the knee. While in hospital, he was very overcome by the suffering of the other cancer patients, many of them young children, and he decided he wanted to do something to raise awareness and raise money for cancer research. He decided to do this by setting a goal of running across Canada. It is important to remember that this was before the internet and social media, and also before cancer was as common (or at least commonly talked about) as it is now. Terry Fox called his journey the Marathon of Hope. He began his run in St. John's, Newfoundland on April 12, 1980 to little fanfare or attention.Although it was hard to get attention to begin with (again, this was long before the internet!), enthusiasm started to grow and the money he collected along his route grew as well. He ran about 42 kilometers (26 miles) a day!! Sadly, on September 1st, 143 days and 5373 kilometers (3339 miles) into his journey, he was forced to stop running just outside of Thunder Bay, Ontario because the cancer had spread to his lungs. Terry Fox passed away on June 28th, 1981 at the age of 22.

Although Terry lost his battle to cancer, his legacy was just beginning. The Terry Fox Foundation was created in his name to continue his desire to raise awareness and money for cancer research. Over $650 million dollars has been raised to date through Terry Fox Runs worldwide. The Terry Fox Foundation is a fiscally responsible charity and it is has no corporate sponsorship. The Foundation supports promising research in any field of cancer research. It is not tied to any one type of cancer.

The Terry Fox Foundation is a cause that is close to Crystal's heart for a number of reasons. She is a cancer survivor and is a proud member of Terry's Team. Terry's Team is composed of cancer survivors, who run in the Terry Fox Run to give hope to others battling cancer and to show the world that cancer research is working. Survival rates are going up, but we still have a lot of work to do. The Terry Fox Run is a very emotional run for Crystal. Every year she is choking back tears. Sometimes not so successfully. This year will be especially emotionally as two people that she loves very much have been given a terminal diagnosis.

Terry Fox was one man who strived to make a difference in the world. Crystal also believes whole heartily that we can each make a difference. Many small acts bond together to be a giant, world changing event.
