I have an entire drawer in my Helmer dedicated to top coats and base coats. And it's pretty much full. I would wager a bet that, without actually counting, I have about 30 different top coats and probably 15 different base coats. That's not including all the myriad of tops and bases I've tried over the years. If you're looking to minimize your stash of tops and bases, My Indie Polish has created an all-new (and unlike anything else on the market) 2-in-1 top and base coat... introducing My Indie Polish Top or Bottom Duocoat 2-in-1 Top and Base Coat!
My Indie Polish Top or Bottom Duocoat (15mL, $7.75 USD) can be used as both a base coat and top coat. My Indie Polish notes that it is NOT a quick dry top coat. Apply as base and allow to dry before using a nail polish. Once your polish is dry, apply as a top coat. It dries without causing shrinkage, and it is super glossy.
A few notes on my experience with Top or Bottom:
- excellent base coat
- took about 4 hours before my nails were fully dry and hardened
- very glossy and smooths texture on moderately glittery polishes (such as Like Oh My Caboodle)
- minimal shrinkage
- barely any tip wear after 4 days (the photos below show my nails right after applying and 4 days later before I removed it because I had more swatching to do)
Final Verdict: Top or Bottom works best and dries quicker on polishes that only need 1 or 2 coats; if you're okay with waiting to make sure your nails are fully dry and hardened then this is a great long-wearing top coat that I would recommend.

Each month Polish Pickup will bring you a variety of polishes, nail care and nail art items from indie makers based on a theme voted on by you. Indie makers can pick-up and join any month they please, and all are welcome.
Shop is live the first Friday, 11 AM EST of each month and stays open for four days, through the following Monday at Midnight EST. This is the ONLY time frame in which the monthly polishes will be available for purchase.
All products are pre-ordered and will ship a minimum of 3 weeks after sale commencement. Polish Pickup ships for a flat fee of $3 in the US and $5 to Canada. International shipping is now available at cost. Polish Pickup will combine orders placed over the 4 day sale period. This will happen automatically when shipping begins and you will then receive your shipping overage refunds.
